The report "Indo-Pacific Strategies of EU Member States" examines the strategies of European Union countries toward the Indo-Pacific region, considering the goals established by the EU in areas such as sustainable and inclusive prosperity, green transition, ocean governance, digital governance and partnerships, connectivity, security and defence, human security. Within the EU's strategy, the highest priority is given to developing international connectivity networks, while ocean governance receives comparatively less attention. France and Germany have strategies that align most closely with the EU document; France emphasizes multilateralism and stability, while Germany focuses on sustainable prosperity. In contrast, the Czech Republic places the greatest importance on security and defense, distinguishing its approach from that of other member states. The French strategy views the Indo-Pacific as a critical arena for global power competition, necessitating international cooperation to prevent the escalation of tensions. Download the report here.
The report "Local China: Mechanisms, Opportunities, Challenges" discusses the functioning of mechanisms concerning the relationships between provinces and the political center, both during the reform period after 1978 and after Chairman Xi Jinping took power in 2012. It also analyzes selected case studies: Chongqing, Sichuan, Guangdong, and Shaanxi. To better understand the topic, the report is divided into two parts. The first part discusses the functioning of local units within the party-government structure of the PRC from the perspective of relationships with the political center and horizontal relationships between provinces. Additionally, it describes the establishment and management of international relations by their authorities and the development of integrative projects within China. The second part is an empirical study and presents the activities of selected provinces: Shaanxi, Guangdong, Sichuan, and the independent municipality of Chongqing in the development of logistics connections and international cooperation. The report aims to analyze the activities of the administration of Prime Minister Kishida Fumio to date regarding support for war refugees from Ukraine and to compare these activities with the situation of Ukrainians in Poland, i.e. the country that received the largest group of them. The report covers the activity of the surveyed entities from the beginning of the conflict in Ukraine until the end of February 2023. By identifying the most critical needs of refugees, aid organizations and host entities, the report includes recommendations for Japanese political and humanitarian institutions. This volume is a collection of short day-by-day commentaries on the 20th Party Congress. As we know, Xi Jinping has cemented power and established his now unique place in the history of the Communist Party of China. However, the commentaries are not taken from the front pages of Chinese media outlets that were dominated by images and words of senior leaders and mainly Xi Jinping.
