14TH LODZ EAST ASIA MEETING “ASIA IN WORLD POLITICS: PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE”
The 14th annual Lodz East Asia Meeting took place at the Faculty of International and Political Studies on 7-8 June 2018. The conference was devoted to the examination of Asia’s position in the contemporary world. Among important issues raised during the conference were changes in American policy towards Asia during the administration of Donald Trump, as well as the role of China in the regional politics and development of Asia-Europe relations. The keynote speech was delivered by David Camroux, Professor of Sciences Po: CERI, Paris and Vietnam National University. In his lecture Professor Camroux examined possible end of the US Pivot to Asia politics under Donald Trump administration. The keynote speech was followed by two panels. The first one was devoted to new developments in cooperation among ASEAN states and was chaired by Professor Camroux. The second panel moderated by Professor Karol Żakowski followed keynote speech topic of Trump administration’s Asia policy.
At the end of the first day of the conference the participants were invited to banquet at Biedermann Palace. The conference was divided into plenary lecture and 14 sessions which focused on Asia-Europe relations, China’s role in the region (China’s Foreign Policy, Different Dimensions of China’s Economic Development, South China Sea Territorial Dispute, One Belt, One Road Initiative), security issues in East Asia, as well as South and Southeast Asia in world politics and domestic policies in Asian countries. Special session was dedicated to presentation of the e-book entitled “The EU Policy Towards Asian States”. The book has been written in the frames of the Jean Monnet Module project.
In total, 45 presenters from 10 countries (22 presenters from abroad and 23 from Poland) participated in the 14th Lodz East Asia Meeting. The conference was held under honorary patronage of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Jacek Czaputowicz.
