15TH LODZ EAST ASIA MEETING “NEW DYNAMICS IN ASIA”
The 15th annual Lodz East Asia Meeting took place at the Faculty of International and Political Studies on 6-7 June 2018. The conference was aimed at exchange of opinions on various international issues in such fields as politics, economy and society in Asia. Among important issues raised during the conference were challenges that Asian states like China, Japan and South Korea are facing in bilateral relations with neighbors. As usual one of the panels was devoted to Asian-European ties. The keynote speech was delivered by Prof. Reinhard Drifte of Newcastle University, a well-known researcher of foreign policy and political system of Japan. In his lecture Professor Drifte examined Japan-China relations in an age of even more uncertainties. The keynote speech was followed by two panels. The first one was devoted to China’s foreign policy and was chaired by Professor Drifte. The second panel discussed evolution of Asia-Europe ties.
At the end of the first day of the conference the participants were invited to banquet at Biedermann Palace. The conference was divided into plenary lecture and 13 sessions which focused on regional integration in Southeast Asia, role of the United States in the Asia-Pacific region, foreign and domestic politics of such countries as China and Japan, security issues and economic cooperation. Selected papers will be published by the University of Lodz.
In total, 41 presenters from 12 countries (17 presenters from abroad and 24 from Poland) participated in the 15th Lodz East Asia Meeting. Among presenters were researchers from countries like Japan, China, Taiwan, United States, Russia, Saudi Arabia, India, Indonesia, Thailand, Great Britain, Czech Republic and Turkey. The conference was held under honorary patronage of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland Jacek Czaputowicz.
