Insights into Polish economy and financial market.

The idea of the course is to advance students’ knowledge on Polish economy and financial market. Students are introduced to the current macroeconomic situation of Poland as a European Union member. Thanks to presenting the historic background (the outline and effects of transformation in Poland) students have a chance to understand the specifics of Polish economy. The course is complemented by presenting financial market and financial institutions as an essential element of the modern market economy in Poland. 

This course is open to anyone, even without a background in economics, who is curious about Polish economy and want to learn how financial market and financial institutions works in Poland. By completing the course, students have a deeper understanding of macro- and microeconomics, illustrated by Polish background. 

The course takes 15 hours and covers the following topics:

1. Polish transformation – outline and effects (5h) 
The aim of this module is to present the outline and effects of transformation in Poland and to explain how some of the major economic sectors have changed their functioning because of that process.  

The module covers following issues: 

  1. Theoretical background from institutional economics 
  2. The outline of Polish transformation and its economic effects 
  3. Privatisation process and its importance 
  4. The transformation of selected sectors 

 

2. Current macroeconomic situation of Poland and other EU countries (5h) 
The aim of this module is twofold. Firstly, the basic macroeconomic indicators of Polish economy are introduced. Secondly, the comparative analysis of Polish economic situation and other EU countries is presented. 

The module covers following issues:  

  1. GDP, labour productivity and its decomposition 
  2. Labour market and its main drivers including demographics 
  3. Inflation and central bank policy 
  4. Foreign trade, exchange rate and FDI 
  5. Tax system and fiscal policy 
  6. Growth and development perspectives 

 

3. Financial institutions as an essential element of the modern market economy in Poland (5H) 
The aim of this module is to introduce how the financial institutions works and why are they an essential element of the modern market economy in Poland. Its aim is to provide a thorough understanding of both the mechanics and the operation of financial system, paying particular attention to the role of financial institutions within the system that intermediate between those that provide funds and those that need funds, and typically involves transforming and managing risk. The processes of globalization enforce a deep evolution of the financial systems so that financial institutions and their clients must be prepared to cope in a more and more rapidly changing environment. A particular emphasis of this module is placed on understanding the roles of intermediaries such as banks, insurance institution, investment firms in the Polish financial system. Students will develop an understanding of the various financial instruments. This module aims to equip students with an awareness and understanding of financial markets and institutions regulations in the context of the global economy. 

The module covers following issues: 

  1. Identify the main functions of financial markets and institutions 
  2. The culture and norms of the financial system 
  3. Institutions of the Polish financial sector:
    1. The banking sector 
    2. Insurance institutions 
    3. Collective investment institutions 
    4. The credit unions sector 
    5. Brokerage houses and offices 
    6. Other financial intermediaries

  5. The present regulatory framework and the key changes in financial regulation

波兰经济情况和金融市场简介(15小时)

该课程旨在向学生介绍当前的波兰经济情况和金融市场,以及加入欧盟后,波兰的宏观经济形势。还将向学生们介绍波兰自经济转型以来的经济发展情况。

该课程面向全体学生,学生无须经济学背景。对波兰经济以及金融市场和金融机构运作方式感兴趣的学生均可前来。通过15小时课程的学习,学生将对波兰的宏观以及微观经济状况有更进一步的认识。

课程将涵盖以下单元:

1. 波兰的经济转型(5小时)
该单元旨在介绍波兰经济转型的概况,并讲授相关的部门是如何因应转型而运作的。

内容包括:

  1. 制度经济学的理论背景
  2. 波兰经济转型概况及其影响
  3. 私有化进程及其重要性
  4. 相关部门的改革

 

2. 波兰及其他欧盟国家的宏观经济形势(5小时)
该单元旨在介绍波兰的经济情况并与其他欧盟国家进行比较分析

内容包括:

  1. GDP,劳动生产率及其分解
  2. 劳动力市场及其主要驱动力,包括人口统计
  3. 通货膨胀与中央银行政策
  4. 对外贸易、汇率与外国直接投资
  5. 税收制度与财政政策
  6. 经济增长与发展前景
     

3. 波兰的金融市场与金融机构(5小时)
本单元目的是介绍波兰的金融机构是如何运作的,及其对波兰的现代市场经济的作用。其为了使学生全面了解金融系统的机制和运作方式,特别是金融机构在系统内部的作用,例如应对风险。当前的全球化进程需要金融系统做出改革,因此金融机构需要做出相应对策以因应当前快速变化的环境。本单元特别要介绍波兰的银行、保险机构、投资公司在波兰金融体系中的作用,通过介绍,旨在使学生了解全球经济背景下的波兰金融市场。

内容包括:

  1. 金融市场和机构的主要职能
  2. 金融体系的规范
  3. 波兰的金融机构:
    1. 银行
