As of December 1, 2015. The Rector of the University of Lodz prof. zw. dr. hab. Wlodzimierz Nykiel established the Centre for Asian Affairs.

Regulations of the Functioning of the Centre for Asian Affairs

§1
 

  1. The Centre for Asian Affairs initiates research and organizational activities in the fields of political, economic, legal, socio-cultural issues of East Asian countries.
  2. The main goals of CAA's activity are in line with the self-government and civic dimension of Poland's foreign policy and the statutory goals of the University of Lodz related to activities for the common good and the comprehensive development of the country, city and region.

In particular, the CAA aims to:

  1. support the state and local administration and business environment institutions cooperating with Asian partners;
  2. identification of areas of cooperation with Asia through participation in the public debate on the local, national and European level;
  3. supporting and developing cooperation with Asia at the civic level and building public understanding for the development of contacts with the countries of the region;
  4. the above objectives will be realized through the following activities:
  5. conducting research on the current political, economic and social situation of Asian countries, with particular emphasis on the local and regional context;
  6. preparing studies and analyses on new economic and political trends, conditions for economic cooperation with a particular focus on the promotion of Polish exports to Asian markets and investment opportunities;
  7. preparing recommendations for local governments before visits to Asian countries and visits of Asian delegations in the country;
  8. development of professional competence of the staff of institutions involved in cooperation with Asia (internships, training, postgraduate studies);
  9. popularising knowledge of Asia on a local, national and international level (conferences, lectures, seminars, workshops);
  10. cooperation with recognized scientific and analytical centers, European Union institutions and companies involved in cooperation with Asia;
  11. strengthening and promoting student and academic exchange between European universities and their counterparts in Asian countries;
  12. initiating publishing series devoted to the publication of own and other research related to Asian topics.

§2

CAA has an open character. Individuals and institutions interested in active participation in research on East Asia may support the work of the Centre with the consent of the CAA Director.

§3

  1. The activities of the CAA are headed by the Manager. 2.
  2. The function of the Head of the Centre can be performed by a person with at least a Ph.D. degree, employed at the UŁ (as a researcher or research and teaching assistant), for whom the UŁ is the main place of work, fluent in one of the Asian languages and experienced in working with Asian institutions.
  3. The Head of the Centre is appointed and dismissed by the Rector of the University of Lodz.

§4

The Head of the Centre is responsible in particular for

  • representing CAA in external contacts,
  • defining the CAA activity profile,
  • organizing works in the scope of the Centre's activity,
  • managing the property of the Centre and granted financial means,
  • submitting annual reports on the activity of the Centre,
  • submitting motions in matters related to CAA activity to the University authorities, including employment, promotions, leaves of absence and awards for employees
  • performing other duties connected with CAA activity.

§5

  1. The advisory body of CAA is the Centre's Programme Council, headed by its chairperson. The Board functions as an internet discussion group. 2.
  2. The members of the Advisory Board are appointed and dismissed by the Head of the Centre for a period of four years.
  3. The Programme Council's competencies include in particular:
  • submitting proposals and motions concerning the profile of scientific and research activities of the Centre,
  • submitting proposals and motions concerning the priorities of the publishing activity and cooperation with domestic and foreign scientific institutions.

§6

The activities of CAA are the University of Lodz and external sources, including the Office of the Marshal of the Lodz Voivodship, the City of Lodz, the Lodz Special Economic Zone, private entrepreneurs, scientific and research grants, and European funds.

§7

The Rector of Lodz University supervises the activities of the Centre for Asian Affairs (CAA).
