The Center for Asian Affairs invites undergraduate students (from the third year), graduate and Ph.D. students to join our team of interns. The primary task of trainee students is to gather information and prepare materials related to the current situation in East and South Asia, which are used in Policy Briefs and Policy Papers. Students design their own Policy Papers and take part in internal discussions.

When applying for an internship at the Center for Asian Affairs, fluency in one of the languages from the Asian region and a documented stay abroad are taken into consideration. INTERNS

RAVEN YIP, intern at CAA UL from January to June 2024; graduate student pursuing a joint degree in European Politics and Society at Charles University, Jagiellonian University and Leiden University, following her Bachelor’s degree in Gender Studies with a minor in German from The Chinese University of Hong Kong. She also completed an extended one-year study abroad program at the University of Bern; In her role as an intern, she is responsible for various qualitative and quantitative research tasks, contributes to policy paper development, and engages in podcast production activities. Her research interests encompass foreign policy analysis, international security, migration, human rights, transnational organized crime, and gender equality.

PAULINA ROGOZIECKA, intern at CAA UL from November 2021 to February 2021; Ph.D. student at the Doctoral School of Social Sciences of the University of Lodz in the field of politics and administration - deals with historical politics of Japan, a graduate of Japanese studies at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń and undergraduate studies in international relations at the Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, completed a language internship in Japan; as part of the internship at the CAA, she is responsible for translations from Japanese into English; preparing Blog entries regarding Japanese policy.

KATARZYNA NIEMIEC, intern at CAA UL from November 2021 to February 2021; graduate of Asian studies at the Jagiellonian University and banking and risk management studies at the University of Economics in Krakow, Chinese language studies at Beijing Language and Culture University, Jilin University and National Cheng Kung University in Tainan; during internship responsible for preparing translations from Chinese into English; preparing CAA Briefs and CAA Papers on the issues related to the image of developing countries in Chinese media.

THOMAS CHAN, intern at CAA UL from September 2021 to December 2021; graduate of University of New South Wales majoring in marketing; student at University of Hong Kong majoring in international relations; conducts research on Sino-US relations with a focus on the situation in the South China Sea; author of publications in ASPI Strategist and The Diplomat; during internship responsible for preparing translations from Chinese into English; preparing Policy Brief on Guangdong's technological development in the era of COVID-19.

WALDEMAR JASZCZYK, internship at CAA UL, March-June 2021; a graduate of the BA in History and International Relations at King's College London, a student of the dual degree program in International Relations at the London School of Economics and Political Science and Peking University; during the internship he prepared materials published as Policy Papers and Policy Brief on the relations of the People's Republic of China and Vietnam from the perspective of military cooperation and public perception.  

JOANNA NAWROTKIEWICZ, internship at CAA UL in December 2020-March 2021; MISH student at the University of Warsaw; sinologist; winner of a Diamond Grant for the project "The role of Chinese patriotic education in activating historical memory of 'one hundred years of national humiliation'"; Fellowship of the Minister of Science and Higher Education for Significant Achievement for the 2018/2019 academic year Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst (DAAD) fellowship - 2018 UW Incubator grant; author of publications on Chinese identity and patriotic education in China; during her internship she prepared materials published as Policy Papers and Policy Brief on patriotic education in Chinese provinces.  

ANDRES EDUARDO PORRAS ARTEAGA, Internship at CAA UL from December 2020-March 2021; student at Warsaw School of Economics; study in China; graduate in International Economics and Trade, South China University Of Technology, Guangzhou; study Chinese language at Shaanxi Normal University, Xi'an, founder and owner of Ecuadorian Association in Southern China, Guangzhou; prepared materials published as Policy Papers and Policy Briefs on economic reform in China, mask diplomacy in Latin America, and fin-tech development in China.  

JAVOR SAMUELS, Internship at CAA UL in December 2020-March 2021; student of Asian Studies at the Faculty of International and Political Studies, University of Lodz; graduate of Logistics and International Shipping at Caribbean Maritime University (Jamaica); English teacher; during the internship responsible for proofreading of Policy Papers and Policy Brief.  

MGR GU HONGFEI, Internship at CAA UL in January 2017-January 2018, graduate of the University of Macau in European Studies, scholarship holder of the Institute of European Studies of Macau (IEEM); he completed his undergraduate studies at the University of International Relations in Tianjin; participant of the international grant China's Rise and Its Implications for Sino-European Relations; in the Department of East Asia he is preparing a dissertation on Chinese perception of CEE countries in international relations; research interests: Sino-European relations in the context of China's relations with Central European countries.

KRYSTIAN KAROLAK, M.A., Internship at CAA UL in September 2017-December 2019, a Ph.D. student at the University of Lodz at the faculty of Interdisciplinary Humanistic Doctoral Studies; dissertation on the attitude of political elites towards social and economic reforms in Japan in 1953-2009; deputy editor-in-chief and editor of the Politics section in the Japan-Online daily newspaper; research interests: political elites in Japan, political myths and political history in Sino-Japanese relations, the phenomenon of nationalism in Japanese politics, and public relations activities during election campaigns in Japan.

PIOTR KWIATKOWSKI, Internship at CAA UL in September 2017-December 2019, currently a third-year student of Asian Studies at the Faculty of International and Political Studies, University of Lodz, graduate of the Japanese Language Track program at Kwansei Gakuin University in Japan (2019/2020); host of the university radio program "University of Lodz on the Wave" on Radio Lodz (from March 2018), and the podcast "Cel Azja" on Asian issues (from March 2020); interested in the economies of East and Southeast Asian countries.

SEBASTIAN MARKOWIAK, Internship at CAA UL in September 2017-December 2019, third-year student of Asian Studies specialization in English; as part of the JASSO (Japan Student Services Organization) scholarship, he did a one-year language internship (2015-2016) at Josai University in Japan; research interests: Japan's relations in the East Asian region with a focus on interdependence theory, cooperation between Polish-Japanese educational institutions, the importance of the Japanese language in business negotiations and attitudes towards foreign languages in Japan.
